This bachelor thesis consists of two main parts. The first part, the translation, focuses on the selected chapters from the French book L'essentiel des Institutions de l'Union europeenne from Jean-Claude Zarka who publishes books about politics and institutions of the European Union. The second part is a subsequent commentary. The aim of this thesis is to make a functionally equivalent translation. This is followed by a commentary that consists of a translational analysis, several translation methods and procedures, a number of translational shifts, and solutions to a series of translation problems.
